Travel: Chamonix Mont Blanc, France
Reflection:
I did not realize how much beauty the world could hold until
today. I wanted to soak in every moment. Today we visited Mount Blanc. I had
the opportunity to talk to someone who has lived there for the past two years.
Even now she says that she is constantly on vacation. I believe that I tend to
get caught up with man-made art, because I am such a design nerd. Honestly, the
most inspirational and incredible art that I have seen has been natural and
something admired for hundreds and hundreds of years. I am beyond thankful for
the opportunity to see something so beautiful, and it inspires me to create. I
met up with a friend later on in the night at the Museum of Modern Art and
Design, and saw one of the best art exhibits that I have ever seen. But,
looking back on the day I am just overwhelmed with the beauty of Mont Blanc. In
a strange way this could be a metaphor for Frankenstein. No matter how much
time is spent on the art, it can never compare to what I believe God has
created. As humans we are constantly trying to become as good as God, and
create new inventions and innovations, but we cannot come close to what has
been here. It is going to be difficult to go back to Nashville, where we are
surrounded by beautiful architecture, but not enough nature. We have torn down
trees to build bars and sex shops. It is a bit discouraging to realize the cost
of living somewhere so naturally beautiful, because I know that I will never be
able to afford it or visit often. I tried to capture all that I could in
pictures and videos, but the experience of being there is unforgettable.

"I remembered the effect that the view of the tremendous and ever-moving glacier had produced upon my mind when I first saw it. It had then filled me with a sublime ecstasy that gave wings to the soul, and allowed it to soar from the obscure world to light and joy. The sight of the awful and majestic in nature had indeed always the effect of solemnizing my mind, and causing me to forget the passing cares of life." -Frankenstein
